About the Iowa Falconers Association
The IFA exists to support the practice of falconry in Iowa, help prospective falconers understand the apprenticeship process, encourage education, and promote the conservation of raptors and their habitats.
A Long Conservation Tradition
Conservation has been part of the association's work for decades. IFA members helped construct and place American kestrel nest boxes in Iowa and participated directly in efforts to restore peregrine falcons to the state.
IFA members also contributed birds from private breeding projects, monitored nesting sites, read bands, conducted cliff surveys, built peregrine nest boxes, assisted with later releases and shared raptor education with the public.
The association received Iowa Governor's Volunteer Awards for Conservation in 1990, 1993 and 1999.
Falconry connects people with wild places.
That connection brings responsibility: to the raptors in our care, to wild populations, and to the habitats that sustain them.
